Not having enough breast milk to feed their baby’s is the common issue faced by particularly by the first time breastfeeding mothers. Some mothers can produce enough milk but some may not.

1. Fenugreek

It is considered as one of the important food or remedy for increasing the lactation by stimulating the milk producing glands called mammary glands. It also contains phytoestrogens that helps in increasing the lactation.

You can take the fenugreek like this; soak 1 tbsp of fenugreek seeds in 1 cup of water during night time and leave it overnight. On the next day boil the fenugreek along with water for some time and strain the water. Have this water as tea every day until you get result. It is suggested that the woman with asthma and diabetes avoid using fenugreek.

2. Drumstick

This green vegetable contains the nutrients that help in stimulating the mammary glands and opens the veins around the portion of the breast. This improves the circulation which results in production of increased breast milk.

So, you can have this drumstick in many ways in the form of juice extracted from the drumstick or else drink the boiled water with obtained by boiling the drumstick leaves with water. You can also east this boiled leaves covered with ghee twice every day.

3. Oatmeal

Iron deficiency is also one of the reasons for less milk. So, you can have this oatmeal which is the great source of iron and adding this in your diet will certainly increase your milk production. It also helps the mother to get rid of stress as well as gives her relaxation so, take this oatmeal with milk every morning as breakfast.

4. Red Vegetables

Vegetables such as carrot, sweet potato, and beetroot are rich in beta-carotene which has the capacity of increasing your breast milk as well as helps in the overall growth of your baby.

In addition, these vegetables are rich in minerals and nutrients which nursing mother needs.  So, have this healthy food in your diet daily either in the form of juices or soups.

5. Gourd and Green Vegetables

Gourd vegetables are easy to digest and help to increase the breast milk production. Some of them are apple gourd, bottle gourd and sponge gourd. Also green vegetable such as, beans, asparagus; spinach contains phytoestrogen which can increase the milk production along with rich mineral and vitamins. So have these healthy vegetables in your diet either in the form of snacks or cooked ones.

6. Dry Fruits or Nuts

Kaju and Badaam are known to boost the lactation. So, you can eat these dry fruits or nuts as a snack or blend them in milk and drink daily. You can also add these flavorings in your daily diet for quick result.

7. Tulasi (Holy Basil)

This herb is known to help the lactating mothers by improving their milk production. It also calms down the nerves of new lactating mothers. The carotene, iron, thiamine etc. that is present in the tulasi keeps your baby as well as yourself frees from diseases and also healthy.

So, take few leaves of tulasi and boil them in water. Drink the strained tulasi water with a mixture of honey to you taste. Drink this at least 2 times daily for few months. You can also these leaves In soups and cooked vegetables.

8. Warm Compress

This really works out well when you have low blood circulation in your breast. This is another reason for inadequacy in the breast milk of the lactating mother. So, use warm compress before you feed your baby as it boosts the blood circulation in your breast.

You can do it like this, dip a cloth in the warm water and gently massage the breast and the nipples area with that warm cloth. After you do it for 10 minutes, you can feed your baby by leaning forward.

9. Cinnamon

In Ayurveda, it is known to increase the secretion of your breast milk. It also improves the flavor your breast milk so that baby’s will like it and also prevents early conception and occurrence of menstruation after your child’s birth.

So, you can have this cinnamon in your diet daily. You can also add the cinnamon powder with honey and have it or else add it in warm milk and have it. You can do this daily before your go to bed at least for 2 months.

10. Garlic

Last but not least, garlic and it is an excellent galactagogue which can stimulate the milk production in the breast feeding mothers. Eating garlic improves the taste your breast milk and you can also feed your baby for long time.

You can have this garlic like this, boil the grated garlic in water for some time, later add one cup of milk to it and again boil them together. Now remove the mixture from the steam and add a one and half tbsp of honey to the mixture and then strain it. You can have this drink every morning during your breast feeding stage.
