Essential Advice for Yoga Mats

When it is suggested to purchase an equipment for the special activities like, yoga, swimming, dance and many others then it is not like shooting the gun in the sky, but there is a strong reason due to which these equipment are prepared and are employed while performing the activities.

In yoga, the mat on which the asanas are to be performed is of huge importance and there are many points which should be taken care of while getting one for you, some of them are explained as under:

1. Material:

There are different poses in yoga and each of them has their own technique, the importance, and even the energy requirements also differs. In the same manner, the material which is employed in making the mat differs according to the level of yoga that you are performing. The different types of materials are mentioned in the next lines:

Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC):

The materials used in the manufacture of these mats should have high durability. The material, PVC is the most common and popular kind just because of its originality. The material is prepared by combining hydrocarbon product or plastic and phthalates, which increase the malleability of the mat. This material is not at all suitable to stay lying and sweat as on heating this material can be absorbed through the skin and can also be inhaled with the dust particles.

It is a good alternative for the PVC but if you are allergic to latex then the mats prepared with the use of rubber should be avoided. Every mat has suitable and good for health rubber, so make an intelligent choice while purchasing a mat prepared with this material.

Thermoplastic elastomers:

The TPEs are a combination of properties of both plastic and elastic. The core of the mats is made up of polyester that makes it reliable for use and is easily recyclable.

Polymer Environmental Resin:

This material is also composed of PVC but it is free from chemicals and toxins that are generally added to make the mats which make it environment-friendly material.

Cotton is not only renewable resources, but it is also biodegradable and is free from the chemical contents. But they do not provide comforts like other sticky mats and a lot of water and color is used while dying them.

2. Color and design:

You may find it quite funny that how color and design can contribute to the yoga practices. But it's human nature that they feel happy and energetic when they are surrounded by their favorite colors and the same logic assists in performing the asanas efficiently. In this manner, it is very important to have the mat according to the color and design you love.

3. Texture:

The texture has a great significance for the asana of yoga you are performing because there are some asanas which require a lot of grips and balancing so for them mats which have raised patterns are suitable as they provide a higher amount of friction which is important.

Smooth texture is suitable for those who do not require a huge amount of friction in their exercises and for those who are not comfortable with the raised texture. The tactile pattern is easy to clean and therefore the dirt, sweat and dust can be easily removed.

4. Thickness:

The thickness plays a significant role in the asanas so it is important to choose the mat which is of reasonable width. If you are practicing the exercises in which the use of head and other body parts are required in such a manner that it may cause severe damage to them then a thick mat is a good choice. But if you are practicing the asanas with very less amount risk, then thickness doesn't matter.

Bottom line:
People used to purchase these mats at random without understanding the importance of the materials and varieties which should not be ignored.  Mats are as much important in yoga as the running shoes have in the running activity.
