1. Thyroid Hormone

Thyroid hormone is responsible for our metabolism rate with which our body runs.  Our metabolism rate plays a great role in our body.  The thyroid gland that is present back to the neck is responsible for the metabolism rate in our body.  It produces thyroid hormones that play a key role in performing many body functions.

The dysfunction of thyroid gland affects the metabolism rate of our body.  The thyroid gland is responsible for performing many important activities in our body.  When the thyroid gland is damaged, the levels of metabolism comes down.  Dysfunction of thyroid gland leads to many health issues.

This thyroid gland dysfunction is mainly seen in women.  The dysfunction of thyroid gland would lead to a problem called Hypothyroidism.  This is a most common health problem in women nowadays.  The main reasons behind Hypothyroidism are thyroid gland dysfunction.  There are many symptoms of Hypothyroidism.

Few of them are weight gain, hair fall, dry skin, constipation, irregular menstrual cycles, cold intolerance, fatigue etc.  Women face a great problem with irregular menstrual cycles.  The low levels of metabolism rate directly affect the weight of our body.  So, if you face any of the above symptoms, just get your thyroid gland checked with the doctor.

2. Estrogen

Estrogen is another hormone in our list that contributes to weight gain.  It is considered as a female sex hormone.  The low levels of estrogen will lead to weight gain.  As women have to pass menstrual cycles every month, during the period of menses, the levels of estrogen hormone drop low, which would result in weight gain.

Estrogen hormones are also formed by fat cells.  Estrogen converts calories into fats which would increase the fat levels in our body and thereby the weight gain.

Almost all the hormones affect our body weight during the menses period only.  As women get weak in the period of menses, the hormones present in the body also tend to act slow, which ultimately causes weight gain.  This Progesterone hormone does not directly effect the weight.

During the menses period, the level of progesterone hormone decreases to a low level.  But this decrease in the level of progesterone hormone does not directly affect the weight gain.  The decrease in levels of progesterone causes the problems of water retention and bloating in women.

Along with the increase in water levels, the weight also increases.  So, this way, progesterone hormone effects the weight of the body in women.

Along with decrease and increase in levels of hormones, there are disorders associated with each hormone too.  One such disorder in women is Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS).  This disorder when occurs in women increases the level of testosterone in our body.

This increase in testosterone levels results in many health issues like weight gain, menstrual disorders, facial hair, acne, and infertility.  The weight of the body is affected by testosterone levels as it is responsible for increasing the muscle mass in women.

During the menopause period, when the levels of testosterone come down, the metabolism rate decreases, which ultimately results in weight gain.

5. Insulin

Insulin is the most commonly used hormone name among other hormones.  This hormone is produced by beta cells that are present in the pancreas.  Insulin hormone helps in controlling the fat cells and carbohydrates present in our body.  Insulin hormone allows the body to make use of glucose present in our body.

The PCOS disorder we discussed in earlier section uses insulin as its agent, which leads to infertility.  The high levels of insulin in the blood contributes to weight gain.
