How to Make a Homemade Electrolyte Drinks

The human body consists of 70 % water. The change in water level condition of the body will make the body abnormal.

To come out of this situation the medical experts and doctors suggest us to have “electrolyte drinks” more in all seasons. Every time we cannot have water and electrolyte drinks outside, due to added preservatives, many drinks are prepared at the factory.  Medical doctors suggest having these drinks prepared at home.

The major components of human body electrolytes are potassium, sodium, chloride and bicarbonate. The major function of these electrolytes is to keep us active and energetic.

Depending on surroundings, environment and physical work of the body, lot of fluids and electrolytes are shed in the form of sweat.  The important electrolyte is sodium as it is essential for the nervous system.

Abnormal difference in levels of electrolytes, especially sodium will be dangerous threat to the body.  Levels of fluids should be maintained always. Whenever we feel dehydrated due to loss of sweat then it’s better to consume electrolyte drinks immediately.

Following are the various methods by which we can prepare energetic electrolyte drinks at home.

Method 1

The best and most economical electrolyte at home, which can be prepared, is of water, salt and sugar.  It is considered to be most healthy, economical and fastest prepared electrolyte drink at home instantly. Take 10 units of water; add 1 unit sugar and 1 unit salt. Stir them well and drink it.

Method 2

Lemon is citrus fruit and is best electrolyte. The lemon juice is taken into glass of water and mixed with salt and sugar each of one tea spoon. Mix thoroughly till these get completely dissolved.  This is ready for drinking and to gain lost ions and electrolytes from the body.

Method 3

Next method of electrolyte drink is prepared with combination of “mint leaves, water and lemon.

Take 6-10 mint leaves and crush them, add it to boiling water so that mint will leave its juice into water. Take it off from heat. Let it cool. While water gets little cool, without removing leaves add pinch of salt, sugar and lemon juice to this mint water.

Method 4

Next method is with the combination of “lemon and orange”. Depending on the number of drinks, we can choose water quantity.

Mix lemon juice and orange juice as per quantity of water taken, Mix them well and add salt or sugar as per your taste. Point to be noted is oranges selected must be juicy and not sour.

Method 5

Another tasty electrolyte drink, which can be prepared at home, is drink with the combination of lemon and ginger.

Take ginger in water bowl and boil it for 15 minutes and then leave it to cool. Mix lemon juice, salt and sugar/ honey when you are serving it. 


Medical and health experts suggest replacing sugar with honey due to body health condition and age factors. Sugar can also be replaced with good artificial sweeteners which are available in the market.

It’s is advised that, we should never drink any cool drink or water, immediately after coming from hot sun. We need to bring back the body heat to normal condition and then take cool electrolyte drinks slowly and completely with enjoying taste of mixtures.
