How To Heal Cracked Feet

Crack!!!Crack!!!Cracked feet is one of the most prevailing problems for people of all ages.  It is also known as heel fissures. 

There are lots of ranges in cracked feet depending on the depth of cracking, mostly caused by lack of moisture. It can be avoided or reduced by taking proper precautions at the right time. In some of the cases, we can observe the bleeding from the cracked foot.

The skin on our feet is naturally dry compared to rest of the body. Other causes for cracked foot are cold weather, dry air, offensive foot care, rude soaps, hot showers or bath, eczema, psoriasis, Less humidity and RH levels in home and offices, long time  expose to the sun, more time under water, standing for long hours, diet and even usage of different types of shoes are also responsible for this cause.

In addition to this person who have a medical condition such as diabetes or athlete’s foot causes the dry feet.  Anyone can have dry feet but the condition is more common among seniors and diabetics.

Some of the symptoms of the cracked feet are itchiness, redness, cracks in the feet, rough skin, flaky skin, peeling skin and rash.

Cracked feet can range from mild to severely dry skin. Skin can become dry for plenty of reasons, but there are ways to prevent the cracked feet. To know more about preventive methods refer below.

1. Oil


Wide Variety of oils can be used to heal cracked feet, such as olive oil, sesame oil, and coconut oil. These oils are having antimicrobial and antifungal properties.   For best results apply these oils before going to bed.  It is recommended to do it in the night times it gives plenty of time to penetrate the oil into the cracked feet.

Soak your feet in warm water and scrub with sponges or puffs and dry your feet.

Apply the above mentioned (anyone) oil munificently on your feet.

Wear fresh cotton socks and sleep well for overnight.  In the morning, remove the socks and wash your feet.

Repeat the above steps for few days for better results.

2. Petroleum Jelly

You can use petroleum jelly to soften your cracked feet.  It gives additional moisture to your cracked feet. Follow below steps for better results.

Soak your feet in warm water and scrub with sponges or puffs and dry your feet.

Apply the petroleum jelly smoothly on your feet.

Wear fresh cotton socks and sleep well for overnight.  Next morning remove the socks and wash your feet.

Repeat the above steps for few days for better results.

3. Vinegar

Vinegar can also be used to treat the cracked feet. Follow the below steps for better results.

Mix one portion of vinegar to two portions of warm water. Soak your feet 10 to 15 min in this mixture. After this, scrub your feet with pumice stone and peel off the dead /dry skin. Then wash your feet with warm water and finally apply petroleum jelly. Repeat this twice in a week.

4. Lemon


Lemons are having a unique acidic property which can be effectively used to reduce rough skin.  Follow the below steps for better results.

Add the lemon juice in the warm water and soak your feet for 10 to 15 minutes.

Scrub your feet with pumice stone and peel off the dead /dry skin.

Wash your feet with warm water and finally apply petroleum jelly. Repeat this twice in a week.

5. Glycerin or Rose water.


We can get rid of cracked feet by using Glycerin due to its moisturizing and humectants properties.

Prepare a mixture of glycerin (or Rosewater) and lemon juice in equal shares.

Apply the mixture on your cracked feet for 15 to 20 min and then wash with warm water.

Repeat the process daily for better results.

6. Paraffin Wax

If the condition of the cracked feet is severed and causing a lot of pain, paraffin wax is one the best method to get rid of it.

In a bowl, heat the mixture of paraffin wax and coconut oil until the wax melts and mix with coconut oil thoroughly.  Allow the mixture to cool down to room temperature without any external aid.  If you do the cooling process by using any aid, the mixture will lose its properties. After it reaches to room temperature apply gently on your feet.

For good result apply this mixture before going to bed, and keep overnight and wash it off in the morning with warm water.

7. Banana

Overgrown bananas are one the cheapest method to get rid of cracked feet.  Follow the below steps for better results.

Mash one or two overripe bananas in a smooth thick creamy paste.  Apply this paste gently on your cracked feet.

Allow the paste to sit on your cracked feet for 15 to 20 minutes.

Wash your feet gently with some water and soak your feet in cold water for some time.

Repeat the above process daily for better results.

8. Honey


You can get rid of cracked feet by applying honey.   Due to its moisturizing and antibacterial properties, it works wonders in treating cracked heels. Follow the below procedure for better results.

Mix one cup of honey into half a bucket of warm water.

Soak your feet for 10 to 15 minutes.

Scrub your feet gently and then wash it off in cold water.

9. Epsom Salt

You can get rid of cracked feet by applying Epsom salt water mixture.

Mix one cup of Epsom salt into half a bucket of warm water.

Soak your feet for 10 to 15 minutes.

Scrub your feet gently and then wash it off in cold water.

10. Mentholated Rub

Wash your cracked feet with warm water and dry it.

Apply some mentholated rub on cracked feet.

Wear fresh cotton socks and sleep well for overnight.  Next day morning remove the socks and wash your feet.

Repeat the above steps for few days for better results.
